Georgia Young Drivers Car Insurance
08-30-2010

To get a learners license in the state of Georgia you must be at least 15 years old.  Young drivers are required to hold their learner licenses for a minimum of a year before they can qualify for a restricted license.  Furthermore, they are also required to complete a minimum of 40 hours of supervised driving before they can qualify for a restricted license.

The restricted license include the following restrictions:

No night time vehicle operation between the hours of 12 AM - 6 AM.

No passengers in the vehicle outside of family members for the first six months.  And no passengers under the age of 21 thereafter.

The hours of operation and passenger restrictions are lifted at age 18 with the transition of a restricted license to full driving privileges.  If you are interested in learning more about the graduated licensing program in the state of Georgia please visit the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety website.  You can also find more information at the Georgia Department of Driver Services website.

For those of you who are already licensed and are now in the process of looking for cheap young drivers insurance, we ask you to consider the following the suggestions:

1)  Even though you are new to being behind the wheel that still does not lessen the importance of keeping your driving record clean.  To the contrary, it is very important that you avoid getting moving violations and accidents on your record.  Your age group 16-25 years old, is the age group that gets into the most accidents.  Because of this, people in your age group are almost always charged the highest premiums.  The best way to lower your premiums and qualify for cheaper young drivers insurance is to keep your driving record clean from day one.  The longer you go without a moving violation and or accident on your record, the easier it will become for you to qualify for low cost premiums.

2)  Stay on your parents policy for as long as you can.  Insurers look at statistics that confirm that you will be less likely to get into an accident if you stay on your parents policy.  Insurers believe the statistics come from the extra deterrent that younger adults feel and face in having to answer to their parents if they are involved in an accident.  In most cases you will be able to stay on your parents policy until the age of the 25 provided you still live under their roof.

3)  Get good grades in school.  Good students are almost always offered young drivers car insurance at a cheaper price than poorer students.  The reason for this once again goes back to statistics.  Statistics confirm that good students get into less accidents than the students who get lower grades in school.

4) Take a driver education class.  You can save another 5% or so on your premium prices if you voluntarily take and complete a continuing education class.  The logic behind this price reduction is that the more you learn about safe driving, the less likely you will be to get into an accident.

5) Whether you stay on your parents policy or go out and get one on your own, you can save a lot by taking the time to shop around for the highest quality coverage at the lowest prices.  If you want cheap car insurance for young drivers, you can increase your odds of finding it, simply by dedicating the time to look for it.
